Bo'ness Hillclimb 1962 : A series of pictures taken 1962 at the Hillclimb that, many years ago, ran in the grounds close to Kinneil House at Bo'ness. Not great pictures technically but I hope that they will be of some interest. In the background in a few of the shots is Kinneil House The grounds contain the ruins of James Watt’s cottage and the boiler of his Newcomen Engine, providing a clear link from here to Greenock and the Clyde ! The contrast with the safety precautions then (almost non existent !) and todays at the Doune and Forrestburn events is apparent. Not to mention the fashion styles !! A sobering thought when I realise that I have been watching motor sport, of and on, for around 50 years !! Edited August 2008. Edited November 2008 Many thanks to Kenny Baird for his help in providing details of the competitors in 1962 which will be added to the relevant pictures. Kenny's excellent book on the history of the Bo'ness Speed Hill Climb can be obtained from the following link also. The Bo'ness Hill Climb Revival took place on the weekend 9/10th August 2008. Well done !! A fantastic two days of Motor Sport despite some less than helpful weather conditions.
